India news draws flakes from Ajmer Dargah’s ‘No Liability’ notice from Muslim groups

Ajmer: A public notice issued by Nazim (Chief Executive Officer) of Ajmer Dargah, which is distressing responsibility for accidents due to chronic structures within the pilgrimage complex, has triggered widespread anger among Muslim organizations and religious heads of the community. The notice dated on July 21 was pasted inside the Dargah complex, which warns devotees to avoid chronic or structurally weak buildings that may collapse during heavy rains. It has been said, “In case of any accident or untoward incident, the person will be fully responsible. Nazim office will not accept any legal liability.”The language and vowel of the notice have been condemned by organizations from Delhi to Hyderabad, including Zameet Ulama-e-Hind, All India Muslim Council and Muslim Progressive Front (Rajasthan). Several groups have demanded immediate withdrawal of notice and called the Ministry of Minority Affairs to initiate an investigation into the matter. TOI read Nazim Bilal Khan for a statement and said, but no response was received. The Ajmer Dargah Committee works under the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the episode has renewed calls for more accountability, transparency and professional inspection in the management of major religious heritage sites in India.Sohail Khandwani, managing the trustees of Haji Ali and Mahim Dargah in Mumbai, who is currently overseeing the renewal work in Haji Ali, expressed disappointment: “I came beyond the letter. I was surprised to know that Nazim did not even say which buildings were structurally rejected.”The Dargah gets 20,000 devotees on normal days, which jumps up to one lakh on Thursday and Friday. Syed Madem Hasan Nizami, the head in -charge of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah in Delhi, called the notice “the identity of shocking and administrative negligence”. He said, “Ask the devotees to survey the complex, identify weak structures and then decide to move forward with Ziarat (go to the pilgrimage). In fact it is absurd. What is the role of Dargah Nazim in fact?,The notice follows the incidence of roof collapse and water leakage in at least three mosques within the Dargah complex in the last week.
