Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M SCIndia on Thursday saw the Bharat Post as the most wide and far -reaching distribution network in the world. Addressing the postal staff, he urged them to work towards converting Bharat Post into the world’s largest logistics organization.No other distribution channel in the world is as wide or deep as India Post, Scindia said while addressing Gramin Postal Services Sammelon at KP Puttana Chetty Town Hall in Bengaluru. Gramin Postal Services (GDS), or Gram Post Workers, said, the country’s rural post network is the backbone.Highlighting the huge presence of Bharat Post, he said, “Bharat Post has a presence of 1.64 lakh marks from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Bharach to Tawang.”Skindia emphasized the importance of change, urged postal staff to embrace equipment such as handheld devices and darpan (digital advancement of Gramin Post Office for New India). “Today, we have the ability to become the largest logistics organization in the world. No one has human resources other than us. But we have got to ensure that we are state -of -the -art. Which means we need to innovate. We need to think about productivity,” he said, as is quoted by PTI. The minister also emphasized that the post office should introduce new products and services to remain relevant in the changing world.“For example, we are now starting working for mutual fund companies, which are KYC criteria for them.”The minister said that a customer-centric India post can only emerge when all 2.74 lakh employees work with dedication and passion. Scindia said that India Post would get enough capital investment to upgrade its infrastructure and urged employees to play their role in running this change.“We are going to be services-operated, and we are going to ensure that we convert ourselves from a cost center to a profit center for the Government of India,” he said. Scindia said that he is committed to ensure that postal offices are developed in the entrance of the world for every common citizen. He said, “In our country a citizen needs anything and everything that is necessary for us, wants to be in our post offices.”During the sailing, 15 Gramin postal servants from all over Karnataka were honored for his extraordinary service. Scindia reflected on her childhood, remembering how she would eagerly wait at the boarding school for letters from home.“My Gramin Dak Sevak transpires emotions from one person to another as a letter,” he said. “You cannot put a monetary value on it.”The program was chaired by Prakash K. Prakash of Karnataka Chief Postmaster General. Vandita Kaul, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Member of Postal Services Board Manju Kumar were also present.
