India Squad for England Tour 2025: Shubman Gill named Test Captain; Karun Nair, Sai Sudarshan, Shardul Thakur Earning Call-Ups | Cricket news

New Delhi: The BCCI on Saturday announced a new Test squad for the upcoming five -match series against England, named 25 -year -old Shubman Gill as the new captain. The tour, which is part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle, will be held in England between June and August 2025, including Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lords (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and Oval (London).The series marks the beginning of a new chapter for Indian Test cricket after senior stalls Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s recent retirement.With Rohit moving away from Test cricket earlier this month, Shubman was widely touched to play the role of leadership. All formats are seen as a consistent artist and already a long -term probability, young openers will now lead the team in one of their most challenging foreign assignments.Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been appointed as Gill’s deputy. India has included two wicketkeepers in the squad – Pant and promising young Dhruv Jurael.Star Pesar Jasprit Bumrah returned to the squad after a back injury, which was dropped from action for about three months, including India’s winning ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

The 18-Massive squad was rewarded for their brilliant performance in domestic cricket in three major inclusion-Karun Nair, Arshadeep Singh and Sai Reformson-Sai.This is a young woman call-up for both reforms and Arshdeep.Karun, who scored a triple century against England in 2016, makes a comeback after playing the last Test in 2017. In the domestic season of 2024–25, the right-handed people were vigorous, scored 863 runs in nine Ranaji trophy matches with four centuries, and 779 runs in eight Vijay Hazare Trophy innings, including five Shatai.Nair, who is already part of India, is expected to play an important role during the tour of England.With the disappearance due to Mohammed Shami injury, the selectors have strengthened the speed unit. The attack will be led as Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj, and it also includes Prasad Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Reddy, and Shardul Thakur – a mixture of adaptable experiences and youths for English conditions.In the spin department, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar have been included as an all-round option, while Kuldeep Yadav has been named the only specialist spinner.Next to the main series, India will play two India ‘A’ matches against England Lions, with the first game set at St. Lawrence Ground in Cancerbury on 30 May.Rohit Sharma officially retired from Test cricket on 7 May, bringing the screen down on a 11 -year career. He played 67 Tests, scoring an average of 40.57 with 12 centuries and 18 fifties.Virat Kohli, also, bids for the longest format earlier this month. The former India captain overtook a mythological heritage in Red-Ball cricket, playing 123 Tests and scored an average of 9,230 runs at 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
