New Delhi: The World Championship of Legends (WCL) The much awaited India vs. Pakistan match in 2025, was scheduled on 20 July at Edgbaston, Birmingham, canceled by organizers after widespread resentment on social media. Baikalash followed the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, claiming the lives of 26 Indian tourists, motivating fans to question the time and morality of former Indian cricketers who participated in the match.Amid increasing pressure, many east-India players-of Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina-who come out of stability.
Dhawan revealed that he had informed the organizers about his decision not to play against Pakistan in early 11 May.There were viral photographs from adding fuel to the controversy, with WCL co-owner and Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. Although the images resumed recently, they were taken during the inaugural edition of the tournament last year, not in 2025. Nevertheless, the backlash intensified due to Afridi’s earlier derogatory remarks about the Indian Army.On Sunday morning, the organizers officially confirmed the cancellation and issued a public apology: “We apologize again to hurting emotions and hope that people would understand that we all wanted to bring some happy moments for fans.”
2025 WCL began on 18 July with a conflict between England Champion and Pakistan Champion. India Champions will face South Africa champions on Tuesday, July 21.Ajay Devgan participated in matches in Edgbaston during the inaugural edition in 2024, defeating Pakistan in the final with India.
