Indian -origin doctor Mumbaz Patel elected President of Royal College of Physicians of UK

Indian origin Dr. Mumtaz Patel Has become the 123rd president of Royal college of physician (RCP), a prestigious position, which leads the UK professional medical organization with 40,000 members worldwide. Born for Indian immigrant parents in Lancashire, North-West England, Dr. Patel works as a advisor nephrologist in Manchester.
RCP “declared him as”First Indo-Asian Muslim President“And the fifth female leader in the history of the organization since the 16th century.” Dr. Mumtaz Patel has been elected as the 123rd President of the Royal College of Physicians. He said in his statement, ‘He has promised to modernize the college and re -establish the RCP.
The presidential election concluded on Monday, which is pending for the beginning of his four -year term. Patel said, “As President, I will take RCP to become the best organization, which can support our members on every career platform to provide the best possible healthcare for our patients.”

Since June 2024, Patel has served as senior RCP’s senior sensors and vice -presidents for education and training, while working as President. The duties of his President include presiding over the RCP Council and the Board of Trustees membership.
Chairman of RCP Board of Trustees, Dr. Diana Walford CBE also praised Patel, “I am eager to work with Dr. Patel in this important next chapter in the long history of RCP … Trusts Board can do all this to lead and modernize Dr. Patel to lead his college.”
Patel’s extensive participation with the organization includes various educational posts such as training programs directors and regional advisors. She currently holds the situation NHS England Post-Graduate Associate Dean In the north-west, with recognized achievements in education, training, evaluation and research.
His campaign focused on modernizing the organization and re -establishing the RCP as “our membership and the voice of medicine”.
Professor Jugdeep Desi, President of the British Geiatrics Society, acknowledged Patel’s important responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of addressing elderly patient care through a broad, individual-centric views. “The President must show a strong and decisive leadership to run the real change and ensure that the health system starts working more effectively for those who use it the most,” he said.
