New Delhi: INS Sandhayak, indigenously designed and manufactured hydrogenous survey ship, is visiting Port Clang in Malaysia to promote international goodwill and increase awareness about Mahasagar vision, officials said on Saturday. Regional and overall advancement for security and development in areas or Mahasagar vision of India wants to promote regional maritime cooperation. INS Sandhayak, indigenously designed and manufactured survey vessels (large) of the Indian Navy, made their first port call in Port Clang, Malaysia for hydrographic cooperation from 16–19 July. The visit shows India’s growing role in regional hydrographic capacity building under the Indian Navy Hydroographic Department (INHD) and National Hydrographic Office structure, said a spokesman for the Indian Navy. INS Sandhayak, Sandhayak- Class hydrographic survey ship was commissioned in February 2024, he said. Officials said the ship has a full scale coastal and deep water survey capacity, Oceanographic data collection and is capable of search and rescue (SAR) and human operations with helicopters and hospital functions. The first visit to the ship for Port Clang is the purpose of providing technical exchanges and strengthening institutional relations through concrete cooperation like sharing survey technologies and constant hydrographic support engagement. Major activities during the journey include intensive knowledge-intensive sessions, official reception and promotion of international goodwill and to raise awareness about Mahasagar vision, said the Navy Officer. He said that the journey confirms India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation. PTI
