Now we are at the business end of IPL 2025, with heating the playoff race. While some players have burnt the tournament, some big names have failed completely to justify their heavy price tags. Let’s take a look at the flop XI of the season so far, a team of underperformers that only matters the most.
Opener: Rahul Tripathi and Rachin Ravindra (both from CSK)
It is quite saying that both openers represent Chennai Super Kings in this list.
Rahul Tripathi (3.4 crore): Played 5 matches, scored an average of 55 runs on average 11.00 and a strike rate of 96.49. His highest score? Only 23.
Rachin Ravindra: Despite a decent beginning, Ravindra (8 matches) scored just 191 runs at 27.29, with solitude fifty (65*). His strike rate of 128.19 was expected to set a tone on top for anyone
Middle Order: Ishaan Kishan, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Venkatesh Iyer
This trio of the left hand was expected to dominate but became flat.
Ishaan Kishan (11.25 crore): After a magnificent century in the initial game, he was completely out – 196 runs in 11 innings at 24.50, strike rate 144.12.
Rishabh Pant (27 crores – the most expensive player in IPL history): Pressure of price tag was shown. Pant’s return was a massive lethargy in 11 matches at 12.80 shocking average with just 128 runs and a strike rate below 100 (99.22).

Venkatesh Iyer (23.75 crore): Despite solitary fifty, he failed to make any constant impact. 142 runs in 11 matches at 20.29 and a strike rate of 139.22 justified investment.

R. Ashwin (9.75 crore): Many hypnotized did not go according to the homecoming plan. On an average, on average, only 5 wickets in 10 games and poor economy of 9.29.
Tushar Deshpande (6.5 crore): Struggle with stability and control – an average of 6 wickets at 45.00 and a shocking economy of 11.25.
Mohammed Shami (10 million): A stunning underperformer. In the tournament, just 6 wickets with an average of 56.17 and an economy rate of 11.23.
