Washington: The United States imposed a ban on a Chinese refinery of Iranian oil on Thursday, its latest pressure against Tehran despite a conversation on a nuclear deal.The Treasury Department said that the Hebei was targeting the Shinhai Chemical Group and three port terminal operators in the Shandong province, which was said to be involved in handling hundreds of million dollars of Iranian oil.Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said in a statement, “The United States has resolved to intensify the pressure on all elements of Iran’s oil supply chain to carry forward its unstable agenda to prevent the government from generating revenue.”The Foreign Department said it was a third US action against a so -called chenman, or small -scale refinery in China since the beginning of February, when President Donald Trump issued an order to increase pressure on Iran.However, Trump has also stated that he is working reluctant and is hopeful of a deal on Iran’s nuclear program, which endangers Israel’s military strike.Both Iran and Trump’s messenger, Steve Witcoff, have described the initial dialogue as positive.Tehran, who wants to give relief to the restrictions, said under US pressure, saying that it went against efforts to reach a diplomatic solution.Trump withdrew from the previous nuclear deal with Iran in his first term and implemented comprehensive sanctions including suppressing all other countries – of which China is most important – to prevent Iranian oil buying.
