Israel confirmed that it has launched an aerial attack on the Mashhad Airport in Northeast Iran, targeting a military fueling aircraft, which its army described as “the longest distance strike since the onset of the operation”.Israeli’s Defense Forces (IDF) said, “Some time ago, IAF (Air Force of Israel) had made an Iranian aerial fuel filled aircraft about 2,300 km from Israel at Eastern Iran’s Mashhad Airport.” After the strike, a major fire was seen at the airport.

Operation is one of the farthest attacks carried out by Israel, reminiscent of the 1985 strike at the headquarters of Palestine Liberation Organization in Tunisia.The Iranian media confirmed the blasts in Mashhad, with the Persian news agency “two places in Mashhad faced explosion and fire” and “aerial rescue in the region became active.” The city is also home to Imam Reza Shrine, the most sacred place for Shia Muslims in Iran.

‘To remove an existential danger’

Earlier, the Israeli Chief of Staff Lt Gen Ile Zameer said that the Air Force is attacking the infrastructure of Iran “in an accurate and wide manner, beyond the enemy’s anticipatory manner”.During the visit to the IAF Central Command Center, he said, “The aggressive operation we are conducting in Iran is changing the strategic reality of Israel. We are removing an existence threat and strengthening our safety.”He said, “The IDF through the Air Force has paved the route to Tehran and is accurate and widely killing the infrastructure and nuclear program of governance,” he said. “We will continue to work with all security branches with determination, strength, responsibility and full cooperation, until all our objectives are achieved.”According to a group human rights activists in Washington, the Israeli strike killed at least 406 people and injured 654 in Iran. Iran has not released official casualties.The campaign starting on Friday has seen Israel targeting several Iranian military and nuclear sites across the country, including oil refineries and defense facilities. Iran has responded to the missile strike, killing at least 22 Israeli region, and widespread damage.
