Jharia Coal Mine Fire Fighting Plan updates Rs 5,940 crore India News

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved a outlay of Rs 5,940 crore for a revised master plan, which laid more emphasis on permanent livelihood generation for families affected by underground fire in coal mines of Jharia.The amended scheme, called Jharia Master Plan, provides for livelihood grants of Rs 1 lakh and access to credit support up to Rs 3 lakh through an institutional credit pipeline. These legal titles will be available to both families and illegal title families.The Jharia Master Plan focused on fire control and rehabilitation was first approved by the Center in 2009 with a total cost of Rs 7,112 crore and 10 years of implementation period. The plan ended in 2020.As part of livelihood support measures in the revised scheme, a dedicated Jharia Alternative Livelihood Rehabilitation Fund will be established to promote livelihood -related activities. Skill development initiative will also be taken in collaboration with multiple skill development institutes operated in the area.In addition, the scheme envisages necessary facilities such as infrastructure and other general facilities such as infrastructure and other general facilities at roads, electricity, water supply, sewerage, schools, hospitals, skill development centers, community halls and rehabilitation sites.
