US President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated the first batch of the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors under his leadership as the chairman of the Center. The list includes Country Music Star George Strait, “Rocky” actor Sylvester Stalon, singer Gloria Genore, Rock Band Kiss and actor-star-star Michael Crawford. Trump said he would personally host the award program. He announced a plan to fully renew the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, calling it the future of American art and culture “Crown Jewel”.“We are going to bring it to a higher level,” Trump said. The advanced site will mark the 250th anniversary of the US in the next year’s celebrations. Trump said he did not want to host the program, but was invited to do so and agreed.Trump, who has avoided the incident during his first term after boycotting some artists, has taken control of the institution ever since. Earlier this year, he replaced the trustees board of the Kennedy Center with his appointments. In a true social post on Tuesday, Trump jokingly mentioned the name changing the name “Trump/Kennedy Center” and promised to restore it “top-level” luxury and glamor. The Post reads, “Great Nominee, Vups, I Mein, Kennedy Center Awards for Trump/Kennedy Center. They will be declared on Wednesday. Tremendous work is being done, and money is being spent, to bring it completely luxury, glamor and entertainment to full top levels of entertainment.” “It had fallen physically at the difficult time, but will soon be making a big comeback !!! President DJT.”In a statement on social media, the Kennedy Center said it was “respected” to host Trump, who was visiting for the third time since January. “Thanks to his advocacy, our beautiful building will have to go through renewal to restore its reputation and grandeur,” the site said.During the journey of the building in March, Trump criticized the position of the site, called it in a “tremendous chaos”.Trump said that he considered “about 98%” in choosing this year’s honors, rejecting some candidates, he considered “very awake” or very liberal. He described the artists, including many of his favorite, as “great people”.Traditionally, a bipartished advisory committee has been selected, but it is not clear how the process was handled this year. The Kennedy Center Honors, established in 1978, recognized a wide range of artists, often with presidents from both sides in appearance. The previous honors include both political colleagues and opponents of the sitting presidents.During his first term in 2017, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump left the event after several recipients including Norman Lear, stating that he would not be involved in protest against Trump’s proposed art funding cuts. Since returning to the office, Trump has played a more direct role in the rule of the Center, with impressing programming decisions and promising to eliminate the performance of drag artists. These tricks have criticized parts of the art community. In March, the manufacturers of Hamilton planned to stage music at the Center in 2026, citing a change in Trump’s leadership. In July, the House Republican added an amendment to the bill signed by Trump to change the name of the Opera House of the Kennedy Center in honor of Melania Trump. The change has not been implemented yet. Maria Shriver, a Democrat and the niece of late President Kennedy, called the move “crazy”.
