Khalid Jamil has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian National Men’s Football Team, making history as the first Indian in 13 years to hold this prestigious post. The Executive Committee of the All India Football Federation selected the 48-year-old India International from a three-person shortlist on Friday.Jamil, who currently manages the Indian Super League Side Jamshedpur FC, is known for the AIZAWL Football Club for the victory of its remarkable I-League title in 2017.The selection process consisted of a shortlist created by the AIFF Technical Committee, headed by former striker Im Vijayan. Other candidates were former India’s head coach Stephen Constantine and former-Slovakia national team manager Stephen Torchovic.Jamil took over from Spaniad Manolo Markes, who left the post after India’s recent poor performance last month.The head coach of the last Indian national team was Savio Medera, who worked in the role from 2011 to 2012.Jamil’s term will begin with the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from 29 August.
