The Supreme Court overshadowed the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday and questioned the direction of the Madras High Court to arrest the Additional Director General of Police HM Jairam in the kidnapping case. Describing the order as “shocking and derogatory”, the apex court sought an explanation for the officer’s suspension and asked the Kerala government to clarify whether it intended to cancel the order. The bench commented, “He is a very senior officer. Demanding such orders.”The 1996 batch IPS officer, Jairam, was arrested on Tuesday on the orders of justice P Velmurugan from the Madras High Court premises. The case involves the kidnapping of a 16-year-old boy, Indrachand, who is associated with his elder brother’s inter-caste marriage. The judge said Jairam’s arrest was confessed to his alleged role in the abduction after two accused in custody, including claims that he had provided his official vehicle for the operation.The High Court had noticed that all public servants would have to face the consequences of crime support. The Supreme Court said, “He is a very senior officer.
