New Delhi: Kolkata Police said on Thursday that the accused accused in the rape of a law student inside the college campus was the former president of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad unit of Mishra College and the organizational secretary of the South Kolkata Wing of TMC student body of TMC.Pictures of the prominent accused available in the public domain also showed him close to many leaders of the state’s ruling spread.According to college officials, the main accused were also engaged as a temporary non-teaching staff in the institute for a 45-day renewable constitutional period. He was also a criminal advocate in Alipore police and session court.Meanwhile, the college’s Vice Principal Dr. Naina Chatterjee claimed that Mishra was appointed on an renewable contract based on a resolution passed by the Governing Body (GB) of the institute.“I came to know from the security guard that the police have sealed two rooms of our college. I am trying to find out what has happened. The person was appointed by GB on a purely temporary basis,” he said.
‘The accused kept the mobile footage of the attack and threatened to leave it’
According to Kolkata Police, on 25 June, the alleged crime occurred inside a guard room on the ground floor next to the students’ union office.Officials told the news agency PTI, “Initial investigation revealed that the victim had reached college in the afternoon to fill some academic forms after being called by some people.“According to the complaint, according to the complaint filed at Kasba police station on Thursday, he was asked to stay back by the miscreants. In the evening he was allegedly taken to the room at the college ground and raped by the accused by about 10 pm. We have sealed the room, and our forensic experts would soon be to gather evidence.”The victim also alleged that in his complaint that he was shot during gang rape, PTI reported sources.The source told PTI, “He alleged that the three accused had kept the mobile footage of the attack and threatened to leave him on the internet if he talked to anyone about the incident.”The official said that the mobile phone equipment of the three accused has been confiscated and sent for forensic tests.“We are trying to find out whether the video footage was sent to other numbers,” he said, “he said that compulsory medical examinations were being done on the victim.
