Kunal Kamra Ro: HC provided interim protection from the arrest to the comedian in the ‘traitor’ joke case. Bharat News

New Delhi: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday provided interim relief from arrest to comedian Kunal Kamra in a “traitor” joke case.
“The arguments for interim relief to demand interim relief for investigation in the FIR lodged by the Khar police are eliminated. Reserve for orders. The court said that poice does not arise .. The petitioner will not be arrested until then.
It follows the hearing when HC issued a notice to the Mumbai Police and Shiv Sena MLA Morji Patel In response to a petition by Kamra, challenged the FIR filed against him for allegedly mentioning Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “traitor” during a Stand-up Act. The court also gave interim protection to Kamra till 16 April.
The FIR was initially registered as zero FIR by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel on charges of public mischief and defamation, later transferred to Khar police station.
Although Kamra did not directly name Shinde in a satirical performance, Shiv Sena workers alleged that they referred to the deputy CM as a “traitor”, referring to the party’s partition. In response, a group of party employees ruined Mumbai’s residence studio, where Kamra performed. Twelve persons were arrested for the incident and later granted bail. Kamra has also reported to receive death threats after the dispute.
