New Delhi: Expressing serious concern over the fatal impact of drug addiction betting applications on youth, the Supreme Court on Friday asked the Center to respond in two weeks that what steps take to save the youth from being financially ruined, often force them to commit suicide. “What a therapeutic remedy is this after applying a mind on the gravity of this issue,” a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Joymlya Bagchi asked to specify the lawyer in his affidavit. “The lawyer said that another bench is investigating whether these apps are similar to gambling, and the decision in that case will have a direct impact on the relief sought in a pilot filed by Paul. But the bench said, “You (center) do not appear to take the problem seriously”.The judges also issued notices to some states, RBI, Ed, TRAI, Google India, Apple India, Dream 11 and other gaming companies to record the reactions in two weeks.The petitioner sought a complete ban on illegal betting apps and strict regulation of online gaming and fantasy games, alleging that the film is becoming popular by stars, famous cricketers and other celebrities and attracts youth for apps such as Moths to a Flam. He said that more than 150 years of public gambling Act, 1867, is unable to deal with the danger.In the last one and a half years, more than 24 incidents of suicide have been reported from Telangana alone and are directly connected to the loan net created by gambling/betting platforms.
