New Delhi: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chawan said on Thursday that he does not support the use of the word “saffron terror”. He said that Saffron is the color of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s flag, the warrior sect as well as the color of Sant Tukram and Saint Dineshwar.Chavan was speaking after a special NIA court in Mumbai in the 2008 Malegaon blast case after acquitting all seven accused. The court noticed that “there was no reliable and disgusting evidence” against him. If you want to describe such acts, instead use ‘Hindu fundamental’ or ‘Hindu terrorism’. ,Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks that “a Hindu could never be a terrorist,” Chavan while talking to news agency PTI said, “I want to remind Amit Shah that the first terrorist incident in independent India was done by Nathuram Gods.The BJP and several right -wing organizations have allegedly criticized the Congress for the term “saffron genuine” or saffron terror. Chavan said, “A terrorist who kills innocent people has no religion.”Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also commented on Malegaon’s decision on Thursday. He said, “Terrorism was never saffron and will never happen.”The special NIA court in Mumbai acquitted all the seven accused in the case, which included BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit.
