China has slammed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for its comment, marking the 35th anniversary of the 1989 Tianmen Square Crackdown, called him “malicious deformation of historical facts” and “serious interference” in his internal affairs. In a statement released on Tuesday, Rubio said, “Today we remember the bravery of the Chinese people who were killed because they tried to use their original freedom, as well as those who oppressed because they want accountability and justice for the events of June 4, 1989.” He said that despite Beijing’s ongoing censorship efforts, “the world will never forget” what happened.Reacting strongly to Rubio’s comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Gian said on Wednesday that China had filed a “serious protest” with the US. Lynn said, “Inaccurate statements in the US favor maliciously distort historical facts, deliberately attack China’s political system and developmental path, and seriously intervene in China’s internal affairs,” Lynn said, as is quoted by the news agency AFP.The 1989 rift clarified the Chinese troops and the tank -led protests at Tianmen Square, Beijing, who called for maximum political freedom. The exact death toll is unknown, but estimates are more than several hundred to one thousand. China has continued by suppressing any public mention of the incident, which has a censorship every year around the anniversary.Security in Beijing was tight on Wednesday, with police deployment around the Vanan cemetery, where the victims were buried near Tianmen Square and are considered at several intersections.Hong Kong, once the only Chinese -term region where public sluses were held on 4 June, have also noticed the activities of remembrance since the implementation of a comprehensive National Security Act in 2020. Dozens of police were seen patrolling the district around Victoria Park, where the prestigious candlelight Vigil once attracted thousands of people.Jail Hong Kong activist Chow Hong-Tung started a 36-hour hunger strike in protest on Wednesday. In a social media post, he confirmed his commitment to remember the victims, calling the National Security Officers “real criminals” and urged the authorities to “wrongly” apologize for “imprisonment”. He called for permanent pain of Tianmen mothers, who waited 36 years without official apology. “Roshni may have been blown by gallia in Victoria Park,” he said, “But the spark of justice will shine in the hearts of every dutiful person.”Taiwan President Lai Ching-Tea also echoed the feelings of Rubio, using an anniversary to attract a contrast between democracy and totalitarianism. Lai wrote on Facebook, “The ruling governments often choose to remain silent and forget about history, while the Democratic Society refuses to preserve the truth and forget those who have contributed to the ideals of human rights.”According to news agency AP, public discussion on Tianmen is forbidden in the mainland China, where the authorities have described the 1989 protests as “political upheaval”. Despite international appeals, the Chinese government has never officially accepted the wrongdoing, including one of the Tianmen Mother’s Group demanding an inquiry and apology by 108 members.Outside the mainland China, the clums continued. A candlelight memorial took place at Liberty Square in Taipei. “As a college student, I am of the age of many organizers and participants-people who have lost their lives in Tianmen,” 20-year-old American student Lara Waldron was said by AFP.In Beijing, however, the ruling Communist Party ensured the 36th anniversary that it passed with a slightly visible trace, as has been the decades.
