Indian cinema bid farewell to one of its most revered legends, Manoj Kumar.
The funeral ceremony of experienced actor-director was performed in Mumbai with full state honors on Saturday. Kumar’s mortal remains, wrapped in the Indian national flag, were adorned with Tricol-Theime garlands in an ambulance from his residence, which was seen as “Bharat Kumar”.
Many Bollywood celebrities paid their final honors for Padma Shri Awardee. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan, veteran writer Salim Khan, who worked in his films with Kumar, also participated with his actor-director Arbaaz Khan. Actor Rajpal Yadav was also before the film fraternity, who was involved in mourning the loss of Cinemai Great with family members and close friends who reached the funeral.
The scene inside his Mumbai residence caught emotional scenes as the loved ones broke as they used to bid their last farewell before the cremation in Pawan Hans crematorium.
Manoj Kumar not only shaped the patriotic style in Hindi cinema, but also defined the story with a sense of purpose and national pride. His direction begins the National Film Award for the second best feature film, Cook won the National Film Award, and continued to distribute the films acclaimed by commercial and critics in the 60s and 70s.
The actor was awarded several awards during his career, including the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015 – India’s highest recognition in cinema.
