New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is ready to start two initiatives for the development of sports and athletes, marking the fifth year of his term. The first is the establishment of a sports university in Haldwani, whose foundation is to be laid on the day of sports, and the second is the establishment of 23 sports academies in eight cities of the state.Academies will be established in cities such as Dehradun, Haldwani and Haridwar, where sports infrastructure was developed during the national sports. “It is a matter of great pride that Uttarakhand is now being recognized as a land of sports. After the grand host of the National Games, the state has developed a positive sports environment. The athletes have more morale, and they are performing well. The government will continue to make big decisions for sports development and will effectively implement them. Initiatives are taken to better maintain the infrastructure of the game which is already created and has set up a solid platform to train athletes. Both projects taken by the government are rapidly progressing, which is notification for the already being issued.The 38th National Sports were held in Uttarakhand, in which the state scored a century of medal and finished seventh in the medal. The program eventually marked a milestone in the field of sports, for the establishment of the infrastructure of the game. A new sports policy was announced in the state in 2021, focusing on encouraging athletes and included a provision for incentives ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore for Olympic medal winners. Since then the incentive amount has doubled. Government jobs are also introduced to athletes who win medals in national and international competitions.
