Bollywood actor Dino Moriya appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Mumbai on Thursday. He was associated with a scam of Rs 65 crore in connection with the money laundering case, which included the dysling of the Mithi River.What happened?According to a PTI report, Moriya reached the ED office in Balad Estate in South Mumbai around 10:30 am for questioning. The ED had earlier discovered at more than 15 places in Mumbai and Kochi, including Moriya’s house in Bandra (West) and his brother Santino Moria. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), contractors and officials of others were also targeted.In this case, the tenders given between 2017 and 2023 for cleaning the Mithi river include an alleged fraud of Rs 65.54 crore. This river is important because it helps stormy water in Mumbai. Police said that BMC officials fixed the tender to favor a special supplier of machinery. The contractors then made fake bills to pursue mud out of the city, causing a major loss to public money.Role of Moriya BrothersThe report also revealed, Dino Moriya and her brother Santino were questioned by the Mumbai Police Economic Offenses Wing. He is suspected to have a link with middleman Ketan Kadam, who was arrested in the case, along with another accused, Jai Joshi. Kadam and Joshi rented the machines used for dysling to contractors. The financial behavior of Moriya Brothers is also being seen with companies tied to Santino.After the heavy floods in 2005, the Mithi River Dysilting Project was launched which affected Mumbai badly. It is important to keep the river clean to prevent floods during monsoon rains. The ED is continuing its investigation under the prevention of the Money Laundering Act. More inquiries and investigations are expected when the case comes to light.
