Glenn Maxwell has been named as the captain of Washington Freedom for the upcoming season of Major League cricket in the USA. The Australian will lead the franchise for the entire period of the month -long tournament.Steve Smith, who captained independence in the previous season, will play the role during two matches, which he will later play for franchise in the season. Maxwell recently announced his retirement from ODI cricket to focus on the smallest format before the next year’s T20 World Cup.In a social media post, Maxwell said, “Hey Freedom Fam! Your Captain Glenn Maxwell is here.”Corey Anderson, who played the majority of his top level cricket for New Zealand before leaving for the USA, will captain the San Francisco Unicorn’s. He is the only “local” captain in the six-team MLC that is running on 12 June. Meanwhile, Heinrich Klassen of South Africa has also been confirmed to continue as the captain of the Seattle orcas.The other two teams at MLC – Los Angeles Knight Riders and Texas Super Kings – have not yet been announced their captains.
