New Delhi: On Sunday night, heavy rains in Mumbai caused waterlogging in many areas, causing India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red alerts for Mumbai and its suburban areas, while Maharashtra and other parts of Odisha were also affected with significant rainfall activity.The IMD posted on the social media platform x that Mumbai and suburban areas would continue to experience light to moderate rainfall for the next 3-4 hours.

IMD said, “During the next 3 hours, a red-colored warning for a moderate to heavy mantra with moderate thunderstorms with moderate thunderstorms during the 50-60 kmph issued to Mumbai and suburban areas.” On May 26, between 25 May and 8 am, Mumbai recorded 58 mm rainfall in the city area, 19 mm in the eastern suburbs and 15 mm in western suburbs.Mumbai had previously experienced light rain on May 23, with the forecast of IMD, it would usually be cloudy with heavy rains for the city.Late on Wednesday, heavy rains severely affected Bhiwandi-Vada road in Thane district of Maharashtra, causing significant damage to the road surface and built large pits. The situation was more complicated by the ongoing road construction work, resulting in a large -scale traffic jam spread from 7 to 8 kilometers, with passengers stuck for more than four hours.According to Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD Bhubaneswar, in Odisha, Koraput district has recorded its highest rainfall in 24 years.“Light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places in Odisha in the next few days. The south-west monsoon has already been set in Kerala, and pre-monsoon rains are currently active in our state. Cyclonic circulation is going to be formed. Tomorrow, many places in Odisha will have light and moderate rain, and it will continue for the next 4-5 days.”IMD has issued an orange warning for several districts in Odisha in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
