‘New calculation is necessary’: Fresh caste survey in Karnataka; CM Siddaramaiah set 90-day time limit | Bharat News

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday that the government will conduct a fresh caste survey after concerns by several stakeholders.After meeting the Congress High Command in Delhi, Siddaramaiah said that a new calculation was required as a final survey in 2015-16. He claimed that the new survey would be completed within 90 days.“Caste census was discussed. It was brought as some organizations, religious heads, and even some ministers have expressed concern. The report presented on caste census has been accepted in principle. There is an agreement that a caste should be calculated. We have also agreed,” Karnataka CM said.“However, we will conduct a new survey. Since the final calculation was done in 2015-16, there is an opinion that a new calculation is necessary. The way we are conducting survey for scheduled castes, we will do another calculation. It was discussed that the survey should be completed within 90 days, “he said.This Congress High Command called Shivkumar and Chief Minister Siddharthmaiah more than Delhi on Bangalore Stamped on 4 June for Delhi, killing 11 RCB fans.Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar said, “The high command has advised the CM and me to ensure that everyone is heard as far as the caste survey is concerned.”He said, “We will give new opportunities to all those who felt that they were left in the earlier caste survey. The State Cabinet will discuss it, plan and then ensure justice to all,” he said.Earlier in the day, after meeting KC Venugopal, Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar, said that some classes had some apprehensions about caste census data.“Rahul ji, CM of Karnataka, PCC chief of Karnataka and in -charge of the state met today. In a special cabinet meeting in Karnataka on June 12, the issue related to the report of caste census was discussed. The Congress feels that the Karnataka government has said whatever the Karnataka government has said that they have said Vengong.”“But there are some apprehensions by some sections about the data. The Congress party has suggested that the Karnataka government is re -circulated within a scheduled time. We also discussed the current political situation and recent unfortunate incident in Bengaluru. The PCC president informed the party leadership and action taken by the state government on the incident, “he said.The census report of the caste presented to the Karnataka Cabinet recommended to increase reservation from 32% to 51% for backward communities.This recommendation is based on the findings of socio-economic and educational survey, also known as a caste census, which highlights that backward communities create about 70% of the population of the state.The final report was presented to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in February 2024.The survey has faced opposition from various community groups, including voices within the ruling Congress party.While some leaders and organizations representing Dalits and OBC groups supported the publication of the survey, the others continued to oppose its implementation, citing public funds of Rs 160 crore spent on it.
