New Delhi: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made a sharp and clear demand for the immediate restoration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, considered it as “fundamental rights” of his people and warned against any half measures such as “hybrid systems”, where major powers live with the center. In a detailed interview for PTI, Abdullah said that the ruling National Conference was searching for all options, including transferring the Supreme Court, so that the center could be carried forward for action. “We are not asking a favor. The Center promised this in Parliament and before the Supreme Court. The state’s right is our right,” he said.Rejects ‘hybrid model’, targets security failuresRejecting the suggestions that the law and order could live with the state government, even with the state, Abdullah questioned why such a system was not implemented in other big states like Uttar Pradesh or Maharashtra. “This model does not work. Elected governments have managed better security from the central region’s rule,” he said.Citing an increase in terrorist attacks, including the Pahgam massacre, where 26 tourists were killed, Abdullah claimed that the insurgency had already become clear under his government. “From two-and-a-half districts, the extremism has spread to almost every district of the valley and large parts of Jammu. Who is responsible? The Union Area Model,” he said.‘We are not silent with the good relationship with PM’While Abdullah confirmed that the state has increased several times in meetings with Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah, he refused to reveal the nuances, ensuring that the dialogue does not dissolve. “The conflict occurs when caused by a confrontation,” he said, public cooperation with the Center does not mean silence on failures. In a veil swipe in the previous alliance of PDP with BJP, Abdullah called the PDP’s “political campaign”, which he opposed with his practical engagement.State fight is likely to go legalAbdullah confirmed that his party was consulting legal experts and may contact the Supreme Court for the state. He insisted that the state is not only a political demand, but a question of constitutional rights. He said, “This is not ideal for running a large area like J&K without a full state,” he said.As the political pressure creates, Abdullah’s message to Delhi was direct: “The people of Jammu and Kashmir will not reduce anything.”
