New Delhi: Two soldiers have been killed in an ongoing encounter under Operation Akhhal in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, the army confirmed on Saturday.The operation, which started from 1 August, is still running. According to officials, two terrorists have also been killed so far, although their identity and group affiliation are yet to be confirmed.The encounter began after the security forces began after a specific intelligence input about the presence of militants, after the introduction of a cordon-end-set operation in the Akhhal forest area of South Kashmir. Last Friday, there was an initial exchange of fire, after which the operation for the night was stopped. Cordon was tightened, and additional reinforcement was deployed.The firing resumed the next day, killing two terrorists. Security forces continue to attach the remaining terrorists hidden in the dense forest. Senior officials, including Jammu -Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat and Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, are closely monitoring the situation.Drone, helicopters and para commandos have been deployed to track and neutralize the remaining terrorists. Security forces have maintained a strong perimeter around the area as the operation continues.
