Opposition to Punjab’s land-cooling policy brings farmers together

Bathinda: Resistance to the land-pooling policy of the AAP-led Punjab government is acting as glue to bring fracture farm organizations and individual farmers together, beyond political affiliation, the report of Neil Kamal. It seems that farm struggles are being linked again, which is losing speed – given that the Punjab Police had not had much hue and cry after closing the protests on the Shambu and Khanouri borders with Haryana. The Bhagwant Maan government is trying to convince the people that the land-pooling scheme was beneficial for the farmers, but it is not able to overcome the possibility of losing the land of the farmers. The individual farmers of the villages where the land is being ‘pool’ – which are not yet associated with farm organizations – are now turning to them to oppose this scheme. The purpose of this policy is to pool more than 40,000 acres of farms to promote employed urban development. It is a land scheme for a land, where landlords voluntarily leave the land and in turn are given residential and commercial plots. On July 30, in its Punjab chapter to keep tractor rallies, the green light of SKM, which can be brought under the land-pooling scheme, has come as promoting the forces opposing the plan. The National Committee of KMM has also supported SKM calls, and has more resistance.
