‘Painful, disgusting’: Balochistan CM on viral video of honor killing; Fasting prosecution of 14 arrested

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarafraj Bugti has confirmed the arrest of a tribal chief, who allegedly ordered the murder of the so -called honor for the murder of a couple. Condemning the incident, Bugti said on Monday, “No one has any right, no matter what, to kill someone in such a painful and disgusting manner, and then shoot the video. This is a crime. This is a murder.,He said, “We will ensure that all of them will be prosecuted,” he said, as quoted by Reuters.The incident came to light after a disturbing video went viral on social media last month. A group of men in the footage were shown in a group of vehicles carrying a male and woman from vehicles in a desert area in Balochistan, where they were shot at the border. A man is seen shooting the woman in the back, then there are images of a man with blood lying near his body. The video then shows more bullets aimed at the purpose of both the victims. ,According to Provincial Police Chief Mozam Jah Ansari, the woman’s brother shot on behalf of her family and tribe. He said that tribal head Sher Baj Satakzai ordered execution. The police have arrested 14 people in connection with the case, although it is not clear whether the brother is among them, according to the Reuters.Chief Minister Bugti said that both men and women had children in the previous marriage and were accused that they were out of the wedding. Earlier reports suggested that according to Reuters, the couple was killed to marry without family approval.On Monday, a local court ordered the police to incite the bodies of the victims for the body examination as part of the investigation.Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) president Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the murders, calling the accused “animals”, who did not worthy of generosity.Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission criticized the growing trend of honor killings in the country, in which at least 405 such cases were reported alone in 2024. Most of the victims, it is noted, women, and these murders are often performed by relatives in the name of protecting family honors.
