New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs justified India’s decision to remove the Indus Waters Treaty, citing violations of Pakistan’s principles, violating the agreement in view of the Pahgam terror attack. Briefing the Parliamentary Committee, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the neighboring nation effectively kept the principles of “goodwill and friendship” in the preface of the 1960 Treaty.“The treaty in its preamble says that it is concluded in the spirit of goodwill, and friendship. All these principles have been organized by Pakistan in interest. Cross-border cross-border terrorism from Pakistan intervenes our ability to exploit the treaty as per our provisions.”In addition, Mea said that changes in the ground realities – from progress in engineering to climate change and glacial melting – ensure the re -evaluation of the terms of the treaty, a stance that the delegation visit will outlines globally as they will defend the decision to suspend India’s agreement, PTI informed.
