Pant-East knock! Rishabh Pant makes history, cricket news becomes the first Indian wicketkeeper to score in both innings of a Test match for centuries

New Delhi: India’s star wicketkeeper-botter Rishabh Pant continued his brilliant form by breaking his eighth Test century on 4 of the first Test against England at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds on Monday. Pant made history and became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score in both innings of a Test match for centuries. Remandable, it was the second century of the pants match, marked hundreds of back-to-back in the first innings-a similar test.

With this achievement, Pant has joined an aristocratic list of visiting batsmen who have recorded five 50-plas scores in England. The list includes greats like Don Bradman, Honey Kronje, Shivnarine Chanderpall, Kumar Sangakkara and Derryl Michelle. The record is headed by Steven Smith of Australia who has seven such scores.Only two nominated wicketkeepers have scored in both innings of a Test match for centuries: Andy Flower (142 and 199* vs South Africa, Harare 2001) and Pant (134 and 118 vs England, Headingley 2025). The pants joined the elite club with their back-to-back centuries, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to achieve a rare achievement.

Only a select group of Indian batsmen scored in both innings of a Test match for centuries. The elite list includes Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (three times), Rahul Dravid (twice), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma and now pants.
