New Delhi: An Apache helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has made an emergency landing in the Nangalpur area.Last week, the IAF was forced to make an emergency landing at a ground near Saharanpur, UP, when the pilots received a technical obstacle warning on their flying panel in the cockpit. After extensive investigation on the land, Apache was sent back to Sarsawa Air Station, 12 km from Saharanpur, later in the day. “There is no harm to the helicopter. All crew members are safe,” said an official. Originally developed by Hughes helicopters in the 1970s and later manufactured by McDonal Douglas and Boeing, Apache is famous for its malignant firepower, agility and survival in the battlefield. Equipped with a nasal-mounted sensor suit for target acquisition and night vision, the helicopter can work effectively in both day and night, as well as in adverse conditions of the weather. Its primary armament includes 30 mm M230 chain guns, Helphier anti-tank missiles, and Hydra 70 rocket pods, making it a versatile platform that is capable of ground vehicles, fortifications and entangling enemy soldiers.The Apache helicopter represents a significant jump in India’s fighter aviation capabilities. The country included Boeing AH-64e Apache Guardian in its arsenal to increase its aggressive power, especially in high altitude and border areas. With the delivery starting in IAF 2019, the first person to operate Apaches, and the Indian Army later included its own fleet, with the first batch in 2024. Army Apache is mainly deployed to provide close air aid to the ground forces and strategically deployed with sensitive boundaries of the country, including the line of actual control (LAC) with China and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
