PM Modi talks to Putin: India-Russia discusses deepening relations; PM invited Putin to come to India at the end of this year
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin amidst increasing tariff tension from Donald Trump administration on India’s Russian oil purchases.“There was a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest events on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and confirmed our commitment to deepen the Indo-Russia special and privileged strategic partnership.The two leaders “confirmed the commitment to deepen India-Russia-special and privileged strategic partnership.” In addition, PM Modi invited Putin to visit India for the annual bilateral summit later this year.PM Modi reiterated India’s constant position for the peaceful resolution of struggle in Ukraine as Putin informed PM Modi on the latest development about the war -torn nation.It came a day later when Putin met Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor in Moscow.Russia has expressed solidarity with India amidst the pressure from Trump with 50% tariff on its continuous oil purchases.Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said, “Sovereign countries have the right to choose their own business partners.”In addition, India has defended its Russian oil purchase, calling it the necessary steps by “global market conditions”.
