New Delhi: To address a major cause of concern among the train passengers, the railway is working on a mechanism to release the passenger chart with seats confirmed 24 hours instead of the current criteria to release it a few hours before the departure of the train. Currently, watt-listed passengers, especially coming from far-flung places to catch trains, remain uncertain and clules about their ticket status until the final list is excluded by the Railways.A senior railway official said that a pilot run started in Bikaner Division in Rajasthan from 6 June, and so far, there has been no problem. “We will complete this pilot for a few more weeks to identify any issue and fix them. There are many examples of passengers facing problems because they find that their waiting-list tickets have not been confirmed, barely before reaching the station. An advanced chart will help people make better plans and reduce stress, ”he said.Officials said that the new system aims to help passengers to plan their journey. For example, passengers coming from 100 km or more away will have better clarity and time to reach the boarding station without the uncertainty of the final-minute.Sources said that the proposed norms will not have any effect on those who plan to travel at the last minute and book Tatakal tickets. Another official said, “Since Tatkal ticket trains are booked 48 hours before the scheduled departure, bringing out the entire chart a day before would not be an issue,” said another official. So far, there is no clarity if the second and third list of passengers will be released with the confirmation of the Railways, as many passengers are expected to cancel their booking within the last 24 hours. A source said, “Let the pilot run and then the decision will be taken keeping in mind the best interest of the passengers.”Earlier, the Railway Reservation Charts were usually prepared twice. The first chart was prepared four hours before the scheduled departure time of the train and the second, or final, was prepared between 30 minutes before the departure of the chart train.
