New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced the formation of a three-member committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma regarding the “Cash-at-Hom” controversy.Senior Advocate of Karnataka High Court PV Acharya will be included as jurist members in the panel. SC Judge Arvind Kumar, Chief Justice of Madras HC Manindra Mohan Srivastava is the other member of the committee.The members of the committee include Justice Arvind Kumar, Supreme Court Judge, Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava, Chief Justice Madras High Court and BV Acharya, Senior Advocate, Karnataka High Court. The committee will submit its report as soon as possible. The proposal will remain pending until the report of the inquiry committee is received, ”Birla said.Birla accepted a proposal by 146 MPs demanding impeachment of judicial Yashwant Verma. Birla said, “The committee will submit its report as soon as possible. The proposal (to remove Justice Verma) will remain pending until the receipt of the inquiry committee report.” On August 7, the Supreme Court upheld the validity of the in-house inquiry recommending Justice Verma. It also dismissed his argument that he has not been given a fair hearing. He was represented by senior advocate Kapil Sibal.The House also pledged that an address should be presented to the President to remove Yashwant Verma from the office for his misconduct.On March 14, burnt cash wads were found after a fire broke out in the storeroom of the official residence of the judge in the capital.
