Report: Bangladesh Foreign Secretary should be replaced after ‘Younus’

Dhaka: Bangladesh Interim Government is ready to replace its Foreign Secretary, MD Jashim Udin, less than eight months after his appointment, Ahsan Tasnim’s report. According to sources, Jashim Udin is “not in sink” with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Advisor Tauhid Hussain. Jashim Uddin opposed the initiative of a “human corridor” and “safe area” for Rohingya refugees, pushed by Younus and his NSA Khalilur Rahman and supported by the United Nations. Their ideas were aligned with military brass, who are afraid of the corridor that they may compromise on the sovereignty of Bangladesh. Sources said Yunus and Rahman went brutally for “engineer” to remove Jashim Udin. He led the Bangladeshi side to the Folk-Level talks with Pakistan on 17 April, and raised the issue of $ 4.32 billion financial claims from Pakistan as a “appropriate share” from undivided Pakistan’s property before 1971.
