Srinagar: The development of the tourism sector was possible only in a peaceful and safe environment, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Tuesday, ordinary citizens in Kashmir were taking a stand against terrorism, which meant that people wanted peace and development.Addressing a conference of tourism secretaries in Srinagar, Sinha said that security forces had a major role in combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the role of society was no less. “Terrorists’ attempt to attract their livelihood from society should be thwarted,” he said.Sinha said, “Road protests against Pakistan -backed terrorists are a good sign for establishing permanent peace in the valley. The whole of Jammu and Kashmir should arise and ensure that the terrorists have no place in this beautiful union region,” Sinha said.Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was also present on the occasion.LG said that the conference was an answer for terrorism and reflected on the march of J&K towards peace, progress and prosperity. “God is really generous to Jammu and Kashmir. It is a living canvas of land, snow-capped peaks, flicker lakes, apple-laden gardens, temples and rolling meadows, a living canvas of natural beauty, spirituality and peace,” he said.Emphasizing that there was an unprecedented change in the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir in the last few years, Sinha said: “We have strengthened traditional tourism circuits and expanded the horizon of tourism. We have ensured that tourism benefits reach every corner of UT and change life.”Sinha said that the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting held in UT was a decisive moment that helped in the construction of the brand of Jammu and Kashmir in global tourism. This was followed by Major International and National Events, which presented J&K as “a destination, film, a destination for entertainment and global engagement”.LG said that the administration was committed to promoting permanent tourism under the spread of emerging alternative sites in J&K (strategic promotion and revival). “The purpose of this strategy is to reduce environmental pressure by bringing diversity in tourist activities to a lesser-minded and diversity in emerging sites.”Sinha said that the government hoped to bring nine emerging destinations on the tourism map and provide direct employment to at least five lakh people in the first year.
