The White House said on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump put additional tariffs on Indian goods as part of efforts to push Russia to end the struggle in Ukraine.Trump had doubled India’s tariff to 50 percent by adding additional 25 percent duty on top of the first declared rate, which will be effective from August 27.Addressing reporters, US Press Secretary Karolin Lewitt said, “Look, the President has put tremendous public pressure to shut down the war. They have taken action, as you have seen, restrictions on India as well as other works”, saying that the intention was to implement “secondary pressure” on Moscow.Trump came to the White House just a few days after the Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelanski hosted, where the two leaders indicated progress towards a possible tripartite dialogue with the two leaders with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump described the dialogue as a “a very successful day”, while Zelansky called it a “best conversation”, which he had so far held with the US President.According to news agency Annie, Levit insisted that Trump was firm to speed up peace efforts. “The President wants to move forward and he wants to end the war as soon as possible,” he said, seeing that European leaders and NATO chiefs visited Washington after Trump’s recent meeting, a recent meeting with Putin also saw the talks as a “great first step”.He further claimed that European leader was “very grateful” for Trump’s Russia’s position, he said, “Something that was not done by the previous administration at all.”On the implications of the trade, Indian refiners have begun to hold back the September-loading Russian oil tenders until the punishment is clarity. Officials warned that it would be difficult to change Russian crude quickly, as it is about 35 percent of India’s imports. An industry official said, “If such a huge supply disappears from the market, it will create stress and increase the price.”Levit also reiterated Trump’s long -term claim that the war would never have started, he was in the office, saying that Putin himself agreed. “True. Do you believe it to be true? European leaders do it. Okay, and President Putin himself said,” He commented on being asked by a reporter. “He insisted that Trump was discussing the long -term security guarantee with NATO and European partners. “He understands his need … he has spent an incredible amount of time, energy and effort to end this war, and he is firm to do so,” he said.
