Russia-Ukraine War: Kremlin seeks time to respond to Trump’s 50-day tariff ultimatum; Kyiv says open to talks

Russia said on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump needs time to respond to the Ukraine War, while expressing a desire to talk with the Ukrainian side at the time of the third round of direct negotiations. The AFP reported that Trump on Monday issued a 50-day deadline to Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine, expressing displeasure with Moscow, and prepared a NATO-backed military assistance scheme for Kiev supported by members of AFP.“President Trump’s statement is very serious. We definitely need time to analyze what was said in Washington,” told reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov told reporters.Trump warned that the failure to reach an agreement would resulted in a tight tariff to Russia’s trading partners to restrict Moscow’s perfect nutritional capabilities.Peace talks have reached a deadlock in its fourth year to solve the conflict.Peskov indicated that Russia remained open to the discussion, stating that he “wait for proposals from the Ukrainian side about the third round of direct Russian-Ukrainian talks”.Two previous peace discussions between Russia and Ukraine in Türkiye have failed to achieve any important progress.Russian President Vladimir Putin has constantly rejected the requests for the ceasefire.Russian forces have deployed unprecedented numbers of drones and missiles against Ukraine, resulting in many civil casualties recently.“We maintain our readiness,” Peskov said, while suggesting Trump’s announcement, we can encourage Kiv and disrupt peace efforts.“It seems that such a decision will be taken in Washington and NATO countries and directly in Brussels, not as a sign for peace by Kiev, but for the continuity of war,” he said.Ukraine has understood further discussions with the current Russian delegation “meaningless”, stating that they lack rights to compromise and have presented unacceptable demands in previous meetings.
