SC refused to reduce the case of cheating against senior advocate: ‘Shocking! You acted like a broker, it says; Rejects the petition to return. Bharat News

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday shocked and disappointed a 69 -year -old senior advocate and betrayed a person of Rs 1.68 crore by acting as a land broker and rejected the argument to dismiss the criminal case against him instead of his undertaking.A partial working day of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan said, “This is not a case for disposal. You may be a lawyer, but your conduct is derogatory. You should face a test and be convicted.”“A senior advocate is marsor. He is doing land transactions through his clerk. He collected Rs 1.68 crore and refused to refuse. And all this is happening in a senior advocate chamber, ”the bench said.While presenting senior advocate, R Manickvel, as a compromise holder of the original owner of a property, promised to offer that property for sale of Rs 3.25 crore. On various occasions, an amount of Rs 1.68 crore was obtained by the senior advocate without presenting the title holder to the complainant.Smelling a rat, the complainant insisted on meeting the original owner. Manikvel told the complainant to pay the remaining amount if he has faith. If not, he can withdraw advance payment of Rs 1.68 crore.The complainant sought a refund of advanced amount. Manickvel paid only Rs 40 lakh. On verification, the complainant came to know that the original landlord had settled the said property in favor of his legal heirs. When the complainant demanded a return of his money, Manikvel refused to pay and threatened him with serious consequences.He lodged a police complaint in 2011, alleging that the lawyer was cheated. Chennai Police filed a charge sheet in 2023, out of which the Egg Magistrate has taken cognizance. On April 30 this year, Madras HC dismissed its petition to reduce the case. Against this order, he appealed to SC.
