Secret exile: 82 -year -old lost after a trip to the snow office to replace the green card; The family was told that he died, later found alive in Guatemala

Louis Leon, a resident of 82 -year -old Pennsylvania, was unexpectedly sent to Guatemala after going to an American Immigration Office to replace his lost green card. After torture under the rule of Chile’s dictator Augusto Pinochet, Lyon had been living in Elenetown for decades after being given political asylum in the US in 1987.According to the morning call report cited by The Guardian, he lost his wallet with a physical card, which confirmed his legal residence. Therefore, Leonus and his wife booked an appointment in an immigration office for June 20 to replace the card. However, on arrival, Leone suddenly handcuffed two immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) officers and went away without clarification, his wife said. He was allegedly kept inside the building for 10 hours before he came to gather relatives. The family said that despite several attempts to contact the authorities, he did not hear anything about Leon’s whereabouts.A few days later, she received a phone call from a woman, claiming to be an immigration lawyer, who said that she could help, but she did not say how she knew about the case or where Lyon was held. On 9 July, the same woman again approached the family and told him that Leon had died. However, in a shocking turn, the family learned a week later through a relative in Chile that Leone was really alive, but was hospitalized in Guatemala, a country with which he has no known relationship with. The relative said that Leon was initially detained in an immigration facility in Minnesota before he was initially deported, although his name did not appear in any public snow exile list. His family remains in the dark as to how and why he was removed in Guatemala. Recently, the decision of an American Supreme Court allowed Trump-era policy to allow exile in third countries, not only countries of origin to stand up.Leone, who had spent nearly four decades in the US, was working in a leather building plant and raised a family, since he retired. Their medical condition is not clear, but relatives say that he is suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart conditions. They are now planning to travel to Guatemala. The matter is under investigation.
