New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday advised former diplomat Lakshmi Puri and TMC MP Saket Gokhale to settle the dispute over defamation tweet against Puri, stating that “the courts are very high.”A bench of Justices Anil Kshatrapal and Harish Vaidyathon Shankar proposed a meeting to settle the matter, given that Gokle had apologized in response to Puri’s defamation trial. The court told both sides, “You are in public life, respecting public figures.Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, representing Puri, and senior advocates appeared for Amit Sibal, Gokhale, assuring the bench that they would talk to their customers and consider the proposal of settlement of the court. The infamous tweets posted by Gokhale in June 2021 stems controversy, alleging impulses in Puri’s purchase of property abroad. He is a retired IFS officer.The bench was listening to Gokhale’s appeal against the order of a single judge last year, stopping him from publishing on any online platform against social media or Puri. The single judge found Gokhale’s tweet infamous and directed him to apologize to Puri and make a loss of Rs 50 lakh.
