Anti -Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that farmers are falling in deep debt every day and claimed that this system is quietly killing farmers, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who promised to increase the income of farmers, is busy looking at his PR spectacle.,On the social media platform X, Gandhi mentioned a news report stating that 767 farmers in Maharashtra died of suicide within three months. “Imagine … In just 3 months, 767 farmers in Maharashtra have taken their lives. Is it just a figure? No. These are 767 shattered houses. 767 families that will never be cured.Gandhi said that there has been an increase in agricultural costs, “Farmers are sinking deeply in debt every day-seeds are expensive, fertilizers are expensive, diesel is expensive … but there is no guarantee of MSP. When they demand loan waves, they are ignored”Referring to the recent news, he said, “But people with billions? Their loans are easily forgiven by the Modi government. Just see today’s news-Anil Ambani’s Rs48,000 crore SBI ‘fraud’. ,The Congress MP said, “Modi ji promised to double the income of farmers-today, the reality is that the life of those who feed the nation is being cut in half. This system is killing farmers-but tirelessly, while Modi ji is busy looking at his PR Tamasha.”On Wednesday, Gandhi expressed concern about India’s growing dependence on Chinese products, identified as an important threat to the agricultural sector. On X, he cited reports exposing India’s agrarian crisis due to dependence on foreign fertilizers. The report mentions that India has imported 80% of special fertilizers from China, in which recently supply disruption has greatly affected farmers.“India is an agricultural country, and the farmer is the backbone of our economy. But today, it is bending under the weight of backbone foreign dependence. India imports 80% of its special fertilizers from China, and now China has stopped supply,” he said.Gandhi highlighted the lack of fertilizer, in which the difficulties of farmers reaching urea and DAP were taken into consideration. The condition of special fertilizers for rare resources has deteriorated.“This is not the first time, farmers across the country are still struggling with the lack of essential fertilizers such as urea and DAP, and now a new ‘Chinese crisis’ on special fertilizers. On one hand, Prime Minister fertilizers are busy printing their photos on the sacks, while the other, our farmers are getting fast.”The Congress MP criticized the known risks despite the lack of government preparations and lack of domestic production initiative. He emphasized the absence of policies supporting local fertilizer production.Gandhi said, “Despite knowing that this supply could be interrupted at any time, the government did not make any preparations. When an hour was needed to promote domestic production, he did not formulate a policy, no plan,” Gandhi said. “Will the Indian farmer now become helpless in his soil too? Just as precious time and healthy crops are lost, farmers, sinking in debt and despair, are asking: ‘What Sath, what development,” he concluded.
