Tennessee Ice Operation Trump promotes fear in immigrant communities as more than 100 arrested under exile scheme

More than 100 people have been arrested as a result of a recent joint operation between the US immigration department and the Tenasi highway petrol, which promotes anxiety and uncertainty within the Nashville’s immigrant community. The news agency Associated Press reported that the operation, which began on May 3, saw a highway patrol 588 stop, out of which 103 persons were detained on suspicion of immigration violation. Operation, which officials say that public safety was intended to improve, resulting in recovery of illegal drugs and firearms. Operation has raised the alarm, especially in Nashville, where the local authorities were caught by the guard. Nashville Law Director Valley Diets said the city was unaware of the nuances of the operation. Republican Governor Bill Lee, citing a new law for immigration enforcement of the state, defends the initiative.Lisa Sharman Luna, Executive Director of Tennessee immigrant and refugee rights coalition, labeled the operation as a racial profile, claiming that the highway patrol people have been prevented for minor violations such as broken taillights or tinked windows mainly in immigrant areas.Luna argues that many persons detained during the operation may have the right to live in the US when they reach a proper legal lawyer. Instead, many allegedly agree to exile from the fear of prolonged custody.
