The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has issued a directive that emphasizes that tennis players receiving financial assistance through various government assistance schemes should give priority to represent the nation. According to the order, players who refuse to play for India without valid justification will have to face the recovery of the funds given to them.The order specifically targets athletes selected under the target Asian Sports Group (TAGG), which was launched earlier this year to promote India’s medal possibilities at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Players benefiting from TAGG, as well as the support of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and National Sports Federation (NSF) require a written undertaking to represent India to represent India to represent India in reputed international programs such as Billy Jean King Cup, Davis Cup, Asian Sports and Olympics.“The above tennis competitions have an important national pride. Therefore, it is important that all the players benefit from support, provided to prioritize these schemes if they represent India selected by the All India Tennis Association (AITA),” Sai order said. This further warns that any player who declines the selection without valid reasons will have to pay the financial assistance received so far.This step has come in between many examples in recent years where top Indian players have dropped out of Davis Cup relations. In particular, Sumit Nagal quit matches against Pakistan, Sweden and Togo, while Sasikumar Mukund and Yuki Bhambri also made themselves unavailable for some relations. SAI’s order manifests with the aim of justifying players and ensuring the participation of a strong national team.

The list of women is the top -order players like Srivali Bhamidipati, Sahj Yamlapalli, Vaiidhi Chaudhary, Rutuja Bhosle and Yuva Pratibha Maya Rajeswaran.

He said, “representing India, our great nation is the greatest honor and if you get government support then it should be especially non -communities.,SAI’s order reflects a comprehensive effort to ensure that financial aid translates into national pride and commitment, strengthening the importance of representing India on the international stage. The purpose of this approach is to strengthen India’s tennis teams and encourage players to respect their responsibilities as beneficiaries of government support.
