Texas floods at least 32 dead: 27 girls missing from Summer Camp; Under rescue opes

In the early hours of Friday, at least 32 people died in a severe flood hitting Texas Hill Country, Ker County Sheriff Larry Litha confirmed on Saturday afternoon. The victims include 18 adults and 14 children, including five adults and three children are still unknown.Officials also said that 27 girls from a Christian summer camp located on the banks of the Gwadalup River are missing. Officials believe that some camper may be stuck and may be unable to reach out for help.An American Congressman has confirmed that his two daughters were safely evacuated from Summer Camp Mistic for girls.Representative August PFLUGER on Saturday announced through a post on X that he and his wife had “now reunited” with their daughters.He wrote, “The last day has brought unimaginable grief for many families and we mourn with them and also hold Asha for the survivors,” he wrote.He said, “Please join us today because we pray for miracles.” At a news conference on Friday night, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that the state is deploying all the necessary resources to support the ongoing search and rescue operations. It consists of Texas National Guard and State Troopers employees.Abbott declared a disaster for several counties in the Hill Country area, about 70 miles north of San Antonio. On Saturday, he expanded the declaration to include additional counties affected by the flood and requested formally federal assistance through a signed disaster declaration.W. Nim Kid, head of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, said on Saturday afternoon that the authorities are still “actively searching” for the remaining people, although he admitted that the mission “would turn into recovery at some point.”Kid said in a press conference, “When you talk to men and women in those helicopters and in the boats and on the ground, they are looking for living people right now and they are doing everything they can continue to find as soon as possible,” Kid said in a press conference.Speaking in briefing, Governor Abbott also emphasized that he “missing everyone” has directed all the state agencies involved in the efforts to assume and stressed that “it matters every minute”.According to officials, more than 850 people have been rescued with the help of helicopters.
