Thailand and Cambodia agree to immediate and unconditionally

Putrajaya (Malaysia): Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to a “unconditional” ceasefire starting at midnight, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday, an important success to solve the fatal border clashes of five days that killed dozens of people and displaced thousands of people.Cambodian PM Hun Manet and Thai acting PM Fummtham Vachayi appreciated the results of the meeting and joined hands with Anwar at the conclusion of a brief press conference in Malaysia. The fight began on Thursday after a Bhoomi Khan blast with Seema, injuring five Thai soldiers. Both sides blamed each other for starting the clashes, killing at least 35 people and displacing more than 260,000 people on both sides.Hun Manet and Fummatha have agreed to “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” with the influence of midnight, said Anwar said, who hosted talks as the annual president of the Association of South East Asian countries regional blocks. Anwar said, “This is an important first step towards de-size and peace and security.” As part of the ceasefire deal, the military commanders from both sides will hold talks to reduce tension on Tuesday, while Cambodia will host a border committee meeting on August 4, he said. Hun Manet said that he hoped that bilateral relations may soon be normal so that some 300,000 villagers on both sides could return home.Fummham said that the result reflected “the desire for Thailand’s peaceful resolution”. The Malaysian meeting followed the direct pressure of US President Trump, who warned that the US could not proceed with the country with trade deals if enmity continues. The joint statement said that the US is a co-organizer of talks with partnership with China. In Malaysia, Chinese and US ambassadors attended the meeting which lasted for two hours. On Monday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Only talked to the acting Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Cambodia. I have directed my business team to resume the business team.” White House press secretary Karolin Lewit posted news of ceasefire on X and wrote: “President Trump did this. Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!”
