New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that Hindi was “a friend for all Indian languages”, saying that there should be “no protest” for any foreign tongue. This comes because many political parties have criticized the Center on the policy of three languages, alleging Hindi.Amit Shah said, “I honestly believe that Hindi cannot be opposed to any Indian language. Shah was addressing the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the official language department of the Central Government.He said, “There is no opposition to any language. There should be no opposition to any foreign language. But someone should be urged to glorify their own language, someone should be urged to speak their own language, urge someone to think in their own language,” he said.Shah also commented that for the nation, beyond being a tool for language communication – it is a symbol of a lot of souls of the country.He said, “It is important to keep Indian languages alive and enrich them. We should make all efforts for all Indian languages in the coming days, especially for the official language,” he said.The Tamil Nadu government called it “Hindi colonialism” with CM MK Stalin after opposing the Center’s three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.Recently, a political deadlock in Maharashtra emerged in Maharashtra, which was on the Mahayuti government’s decision to make Hindi a third mandatory language under NEP. While the BJP defended the move as a step towards national linguistic unity, opposition parties led by Uddhav Thackeray’s Army (UBT) accused the government of trying to “make Hindi-Fi” to the state.
