The central portal for Waqf properties is to be launched today. Bharat News

New Delhi: ‘Umeed’ before the launch of the Central Portal, which will begin the process of building a new database of all WAQF properties, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stressed that the portal does not violate the law or constitution in any way.The Minister was reacting to questions about the statement of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board that it would challenge the legal validity of the portal in the Supreme Court, where the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is investigating due to petitions filed against its provisions.Speaking on the occasion of an event to mark the World Environment Day at the Central Waqf Council in Saket on Thursday, Rijiju said that there was no migration on the law, the portal was the first important step to improve Waqf management in India. He said, “The country runs on the basis of law and constitution, not what they (AIMPLB) say. People opposing the law are doing so for political reasons or because they are unaware of its purpose. They will eventually regret their stance and look at positive results.”“After the launch of the portal, all the WAQF properties across the country will be registered on this centralized platform. I am going to appeal to the state’s goals and State Waqf boards, which to register and upload the details of the assets as the first step towards proper management.Significantly, only the WAQF properties, including the user in the ‘Waqf’ category, are coming on the current April 8 before the Wakef Amendment Act 2025, which are registered with the state WAQF boards as per the criteria set in the 1995 Act, which will be able to upload their information on the central portal. Officials of the Ministry of Minority Affairs said that it would help meet the possibility of fake entries in the database. For the current WAQF properties, the position is to be uploaded within six months of the launch of the portal. For new properties seeking the WAQF status, the prescribed process under the new law will apply. To upload the details on the portal, Mutavalli (CareTaker) will serve as a ‘manufacturer’, entering the property details including the registration document details. A WAQF board officer will act as ‘checker’, review and validate entries. Finally, a nominated ‘government authority will act as’ ‘approval’, ensuring complete verification before finalizing the record.
