New Delhi: Congress has taken a stand in Jammu and Kashmir that it will not join the cabinet until it is restored in the state, Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh said on Wednesday. The party vowed to intensify its movement to demand the restoration of the state in Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress claimed that even though elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir, the elected government has no power, in which the Lieutenant Governor has given all kinds of rights.Singh said that there is a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, but the Congress has decided not to join the cabinet until the state is restored.“Today, the situation is so bad that the Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir is stopped by the police and no government file can move forward without the approval of LG. In such a scenario, the state is to be allowed to fulfill the promises made to the public for Jammu and Kashmir, “Singh said at a press conference here, as well as in charge of Congress Legislature Party leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir and AICC General Secretary In-Jammu and Kashmir Nesser Hussain.Mir said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting of representatives of all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir in June 2021 and suggested delimitation, election and reinstatement of the state in that order. He said that although most political representatives had demanded the restoration of the state before the assembly elections in the Center area, PM Modi had emphasized delimitation, followed by elections and then after the state. The MIR said that while the delimitation practice has been completed, the election has been held and an elected government is now for 11 months, the BJP -led Center is yet to fulfill its promise to restore the state, Mir said.He said that since one day – August 5, 2019 – Congress has said that the state should be restored in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, he said, wrapping his 4,000 km Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, with Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, was also committed that the party would ensure the restoration of the state.Hussain said that it is unprecedented that the powers of elected representatives are with unrelated people like LG.He said that once the powers are reinstated to the elected government, will the people of Jammu and Kashmir know what kind of “scams” had “scams” during the rule of unrelated people. The Center canceled the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which on August 5, 2019 gave special powers to Jammu and Kashmir and dominated the erstwhile state in the center areas.
