New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has expressed concern over the extended delay in the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections, as the tenure of the current Executive Committee ended on 2 February this year. The ministry has observed that the adjournment has “created an administrative void in BFI, affecting the rule and development of boxing in the country”. In a letter addressed to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha – one copy is with toi – the ministry emphasized the need for the establishment of a properly organized National Boxing Federation, given the sports and the widespread welfare of its athletes. Currently, BFI is managed by a six -member committee appointed by World Boxing, chaired by current President Ajay Singh, who wants a third term. The committee, formed for 90 days on 7 April, was tasked to address the issues that obstruct the management of daily operations and the development of boxing. The initial term ended on 7 July. The committee has received an extension till 31 August. A media release indicated the support of world boxing for the committee’s ‘first’ approach to the ‘first’ approach to the committee, allowing continuous participation in international competitions. The BFI election was initially scheduled for February 2, was redeemed on March 28 following the direction of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Since then, elections have been postponed indefinitely. In its communication in IOA, the ministry said: “BFI informed the Ministry that the video letter of world boxing 07.04.2025, has set up an interim committee for a period of over 90 days. The committee’s 90 -day term is about to end., Responding to the letter of the ministry, Arun Malik, Executive Director of BFI and member of the committee informed TOI that the new EC elections would be directed by world boxing by 31 August.
